Marvel: Cosmic Invasion – A Tribute & Successor To The Arcade Games Of Old

What if Marvel made a beat-’em-up that felt like a Saturday morning cartoon and hit like Streets of Rage? That’s the energy behind Cosmic Invasion, the newly revealed co-op brawler that just dropped a fresh trailer at Summer Game Fest—and two new heroes: She-Hulk and Rocket Raccoon.

The game leans hard into pixelated comic-book chaos. You pick a hero, tag in a partner, and fight your way through wave after wave of enemies using flashy combos, team attacks, and comic-style power moves. It’s fast, it’s loud, and it’s built for couch or online play with up to four players. And yes, it has full cross-play support.

The roster now includes at least 15 playable characters: She-Hulk and Rocket join a team already stacked with favorites like Wolverine, Storm, Spider-Man, Nova, Captain America, and Venom. Each one brings a different playstyle, and you can swap between two on the fly using a “Cosmic Swap” system to pull off wild combos mid-battle.

Visually, it’s all bright colors and bold outlines, with a pixel art style that channels 90s arcade machines more than modern MCU gloss. It feels like a throwback—but not a lazy one. The levels are full of personality, from rooftop brawls to cosmic battlegrounds that shift mid-fight.

If you’ve played TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge or Streets of Rage 4, you know the vibe—but this one comes with superpowers and Marvel’s deep roster. The trailer shows Rocket launching explosives while She-Hulk slams the ground, bouncing enemies like bowling pins.

I can’t wait for this to replace my games of X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse on my arcade machine!

Marvel: Cosmic Invasion is set to release in 2025 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2. No word yet on DLC or post-launch content, but the trailer’s “many more heroes to come” tagline definitely opens that door.

It’s still too early to know how deep the game will go, but on energy and style alone, this looks like Marvel’s best shot yet at making an arcade brawler that sticks.
