Felt That: Boxing Is Punch-Out! Spiritual Successor But With Puppets

What if a boxing game looked like it came from a puppet show, and hit like a heavyweight? Felt That: Boxing was revealed during Summer Game Fest, and it’s already one of the weirdest, funniest, and most creative games to hit the spotlight.

You play as Ezra “Fuzz-E” Wright, a down-on-his-luck felt fighter in a tournament called the “Million Punches.” He’s trying to prove himself, glove by glove, in a world where the opponents are stitched-up monsters and washed-up legends. Think Punch-Out meets The Muppets, with a bit of anime training montage thrown in.

The whole thing plays out in first-person, and the boxing looks fast and reactive. You’ll dodge, block, counter, and launch haymakers, but with a twist: power-ups and special moves that feel more Looney Tunes than UFC. You might eat a can of spinach mid-round or slap someone with a comedy hammer. The moves are absurd, but they also land with real weight.

The game’s look is all hand-crafted puppetry, and to my eyes as a game developer, pure wizardry. The felt, the fuzz, the seams—it’s all animated to look real. And the team behind it isn’t new to weird worlds. Sans Strings Studio is working with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the folks behind Robot Chicken. The result is a game that feels alive in a way few others do.

The training montage was HILARIOUS!

And that soundtrack is from Flying Lotus. Yep, the same Flying Lotus behind Yasuke and Los Angeles. The music pulses under every jab and uppercut, giving the whole game a cool, off-kilter vibe that fits perfectly with the puppets.

Felt That: Boxing doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s already up for wishlist on Steam. The trailer is gaining traction, and fans are calling it one of the most original reveals at SGF. Whether you’re in it for the laughs or just want to slap a sock puppet into the stratosphere, this one’s worth keeping an eye on.
