Chronicles: Medieval Revealed! Fight On Foot and Lead Armies in this Medieval Sandbox

What if you didn’t have to choose between being a hero and being a commander? Chronicles: Medieval is trying to give you both. It was revealed during Summer Game Fest with a trailer that showed off sword-swinging action, army command, castle sieges, and… Tom Hardy’s voice calmly walking you through the chaos.

The game is set in a huge medieval sandbox where you can build villages, recruit armies, make enemies, and march into war. But the twist is: you’re not just watching the action from above. You’re in it. One moment you’re planning a siege, the next you’re slicing through enemies on horseback. It’s part third-person action, part strategy game, and all of it looks fantastic.

While some early buzz speculated it used AI art, the developers confirmed everything is made by real artists, with no generative visuals at all. The result is outstanding, with a world that feels alive: colorful towns, shiny armor, and battlefields that don’t all look like they came from the same pack of assets.

The game will launch in Early Access sometime in 2026, and it’s coming to PC via Steam. It’ll support mods too, which might open the door for everything from new units to entirely custom maps (Warhammer incoming the moment it opens up I’m sure of it). And with Hardy’s voice in the mix, it feels like it’s aiming for something more grounded than just a power fantasy.

There’s still a lot we don’t know: how the systems connect, how deep the diplomacy goes, how well it actually plays. But the pitch is strong. If it pulls it off, Chronicles: Medieval could be a new kind of large-scale strategy game, where you actually fight on the front lines of your own plans.
