What if Ned Stark didn’t die? What if the Night King made it past the wall… or Daenerys never turned dark? War for Westeros is bringing those “what if” moments to life as a real-time strategy game, letting players take control of Westeros and change the ending.
Announced during Summer Game Fest, this new RTS lets you play as the major houses of Game of Thrones, each with their own armies, heroes, and abilities. That includes familiar faces like House Stark, Lannister, Targaryen, and even the Night King. Dragons and giants? They’re in! So are Direwolves, Wildlings, and siege towers.
There’s only one faction one should play, and it’s pretty self-explanatory!
The game isn’t just a war sim. It’s a rewrite machine. The developers say you’ll be able to relive, and reshape major events from both the books and the HBO series. That means key battles, iconic betrayals, and what-if scenarios that let you flip canon on its head.
Gameplay combines traditional RTS mechanics with hero-led abilities and asymmetric factions. Some houses focus on brute force, others on stealth, strategy, or pure chaos. The game will include both a full single-player campaign and competitive multiplayer for anyone who wants to prove their banner deserves the throne.
Visually, it’s looking sharp: clean UI, heavy atmosphere, and a dramatic orchestral score that echoes the HBO tone without copying it. It’s being developed for PC (via Steam) with a planned release in 2026, though console versions haven’t been announced yet.
If this one delivers on its promise to let you rewrite the timeline—not just fight through it—it could finally be the adaptation of R. R. Martin’s work that sticks.
