‘Under a Rock’ Unveils New Combat Gameplay After Hitting 300K Wishlists

After quietly racking up over 300,000 wishlists on Steam, Under a Rock has finally stepped back into the spotlight… and this time, it’s swinging.

In a new gameplay trailer, developer Nordic Trolls showed off the combat system for their upcoming co-op survival adventure, giving players a closer look at how the game balances primal intensity with tactical depth. The update comes after fans voted for combat as the next reveal in a recent community poll.

The game is soaring to new heights with an incredible amount of interest.

The footage features a new enemy type: Neanderthals, and they guard their territory with brutality. You will need more than luck to survive. Dodging, blocking, and striking with spears, clubs, and bows all require solid timing and good instincts. Every hit lands with weight, and the combat looks fluid without being overcomplicated. It’s a strong evolution from the game’s earlier reveals, and I’m all for that!

That sandbox is still very much alive, though. Set in a procedurally generated world shaped by an alternate evolutionary path, Under a Rock mixes survival, exploration, creature taming, cooking, and base building into a chaotic, unpredictable loop. You can play solo or with up to 10 players in online co-op, and no two sessions will be the same.

Looks like combat will be a lot of fun if we're to trust what we've seen on the new trailer.

The game has a ton of personality: from the quirky creature designs to the inclusive character creator, and the beautiful semi-realistic shading really sells it for me. Just don’t get too comfortable. What looks cute might bite, and even the island’s biomes can turn against you if you’re not prepared.

Under a Rock is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles. You can wishlist it now on Steam or the Epic Games Store. More reveals are on the way, and based on how the team is listening to its community, I’m sure the next surprise may be closer than you think.
