Onimusha: Way of the Sword Trailer Brings Back Musashi in 2026

Onimusha: Way of the Sword brings the series roaring into 2026 with a new trailer that dropped during Summer Game Fest. It’s fast, flashy, and feels like a serious return to form.

You play as Miyamoto Musashi, the legendary swordsman, who finds himself trapped in a cursed realm between life and death. His opponent? Sasaki Ganryu, a rival swordsman powered by a demonic Oni Gauntlet. The setup is simple but sharp: two warriors on a collision course, backed by supernatural forces and a rising tide of Genma demons.

The combat is pure action. You’ve got precise swordplay, critical counterattacks called Issen Strikes, and mystical blade powers that build as you fight. The trailer shows destructible arenas, glowing Oni energy, and fast movement across floating platforms and collapsing bridges. It looks stylish without feeling overproduced.

A new Onimusha game was long overdue!

The game keeps its dark fantasy roots but adds a modern flair. The lighting is moody. The armor is cracked and glowing. The camera swings wide during finishers, giving the whole thing an anime-cinematic vibe—but still grounded in blood and steel.

Capcom confirmed the game is coming in 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. No word yet on whether this is a full reboot or a spiritual sequel, but it’s clear they’re leaning into the original trilogy’s tone while updating everything else.

Onimusha has been quiet for a long time. But with Monster Hunter and Resident Evil riding high, this revival might be perfectly timed. If Way of the Sword can deliver tight combat and a focused, stylish story, it could be more than nostalgia—it could be Capcom’s next action heavyweight.
