Mortal Shell 2 is Coming Back With More Guns, Gore, and Grit

Mortal Shell 2 didn’t just show up at Summer Game Fest. It kicked the door open, dropped a pile of sludge-soaked chaos on the floor, and left everyone asking: wait, was that a machine gun?

The trailer came out swinging with everything fans love: creepy bosses, gritty vibes, and combat that hits like a brick. But this time, it’s different. There are actual guns now. Crossbows that rattle like machine guns. Shotgun-style blasts that send enemies flying. For a genre known for swords and shields, that’s a huge shift.

The game keeps its core. You’ll be swapping between armored shells like the first Mortal Shell, but it also adds a lot more speed and firepower. You’re not just rolling around waiting for your turn anymore. You’re pushing forward, getting in their face, and finishing fights fast. It still looks brutal. Crazily enough even more than before.

Mortal Shell 2 looks incredible. It really feels like it's fully realizing what its previous iteration couldn't!

And there’s already a beta coming. You can sign up right now on Steam if you want to try it early. People online are fired up! Reddit threads lit up like a bonfire. Soulslike fans are screaming for more, and some are even calling it their favorite trailer of the entire event. There’s something about the way this sequel doesn’t hold back that makes it so appealing. It’s not trying to be cleaner or shinier. It’s leaning more than ever before into the mess, the grit, and the gore. In some ways it looks like they even took lessons from Doom in its presentation as a way to differentiate themselves more from From Software titles.

Mortal Shell 2 is coming in 2026, and it doesn’t feel like it’s trying to really copy anyone else. It seems like the developers took a lot of good lessons from the original Mortal Shell, and it’s evolving into something louder, faster, and meaner. If the beta lands right and the combat sticks the landing, it could become a really memorable soulslike carving its path to greatness.
