Mio: Memories in Orbit at Summer Game Fest 2025

A tiny android drifts through a forgotten space station, its systems broken, its memories scattered, its time running out. Mio: Memories in Orbit sets the stage for a poetic and fast-paced Metroidvania, and you can play the demo right now.

Revealed during Summer Game Fest, Mio is a hand-drawn 2D action-platformer where you control MIO, a nimble android explorer tasked with saving a dying ship known as the Vessel. It’s part platformer, part combat-driven memory dive, all wrapped in a lush, sci-fi atmosphere.

The gameplay mixes tight controls with classic Metroidvania structure. You’ll wall-glide, grapple, dodge, and combo your way through overgrown sectors, mysterious terminals, and remnants of corrupted machines. The playable demo already clocks in at 2 to 3 hours for most players and includes a secret area for those willing to explore every corner.

The design of Mio: Memories in Orbit is full of wonder.

Visually, the game draws clear comparisons to Hollow Knight and Ori, but it carves its own path with clean lines, surreal lighting, and gentle particle effects that make the Vessel feel eerie but alive. Lo-fi beats and ambient choral melodies give the whole experience a hypnotic energy… half dream, half countdown.

The Steam and Microsoft Store demo is available now for PC players, and the full version is set to release in 2025 across PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

It’s hard not to feel something while watching it. It’s not just about chasing upgrades, it’s also about chasing purpose, piecing together the ship’s story one flickering memory at a time. If the full game delivers on the quiet magic the demo already shows, this could be one of the genre’s standouts next year.

I played the demo of Mio and its such a pretty game, with satisfying controls I added it to my wishlist to make sure I pick it up after full release.
